As a child, I battled with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), my first encounter with the complex interplay between mind and body. Little did I know this was just the beginning of a lifelong journey toward understanding and embracing holistic health.
Growing up, my body seemed to be in constant rebellion. I yo-yoed between weight gain and loss, grappling with binge eating episodes and turning to food as a way to cope with emotions. Nights were a battleground of racing thoughts, while my skin erupted in a constellation of issues from dermatitis to acne. On the surface, I was the quintessential over-achiever. Yet, beneath that facade, I wrestled with daily stress and anxiety about the future – even exciting projects felt like additional burdens on my body and mind.
My dream has always been to empower others in navigating their life’s journey. This aspiration led me to the humanitarian world where, for 5 years, I implemented rural development projects with vulnerable communities. But something felt off. The sector I had idealised didn’t align with my personal values and approach. I found myself at a crossroads, yearning to rediscover my purpose.
It was then that I turned my gaze to the health sector, particularly natural medicine. I was disillusioned with conventional approaches that often normalised symptoms or suppressed them with pills and surgeries, rarely addressing the root cause. This search led me to Naturopathic Nutrition, a discipline that views the body as a whole and aims to restore its original design.
Discovering Naturopathic Nutrition was a turning point. By making simple, yet powerful changes – cleaning up my diet, managing stress, and uncovering the root causes of my symptoms – I found a renewed sense of inner balance and transformed my health.
Through this journey, I’ve learned to understand and embrace my body’s uniqueness. I’ve come to see symptoms not as inconveniences to be silenced, but as my body’s language, communicating that something needs attention. The revelation that everything is connected – from our gut to our brain to our skin – left me in awe of our body’s intricate design.
